Afternoon Tea on Board of the Royal Yacht Britannia

It’s a highlight of any visit to Edinburgh: stepping aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, moored at the Ocean Terminal in Leith. But what makes the experience even more special? Having afternoon tea on board. Let me share this magical moment with you.

🚢 The Royal Yacht Britannia – A Floating Palace

For over 40 years, the British royal family sailed the world’s oceans aboard this elegant vessel. With its majestic appearance and exquisitely preserved interiors, the Royal Yacht Britannia is a true jewel of British maritime history. From royal weddings to diplomatic state visits, the Britannia has witnessed countless historic moments and served as a floating sanctuary for Queen Elizabeth II and her family.

Scotland’s best Attraction

Today, visitors can explore this iconic ship in Edinburgh and dive into royal history firsthand. The Britannia has been named Scotland’s Best Visitor Attraction twelve years in a row by VisitScotland – and for good reason.

💫 Feel the Magic

I didn’t want to miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience. From the moment you step on deck, you’re surrounded by royal artifacts, personal photographs, and captivating stories. As you wander through the drawing rooms, private quarters, and grand dining hall, it feels like you’re stepping into a different world – one of elegance, tradition, and quiet power.

Though the Britannia no longer sails, its spirit lives on. The ship radiates a sense of quiet dignity, and walking its decks gives you a rare glimpse into the private lives of the royal family.

The elegant Royal Deck Tea Room

The highlight of my visit? Afternoon tea in the Royal Deck Tea Room. With stunning views of the water, I sipped tea and enjoyed warm scones with clotted cream – an experience fit for royalty. The menu also offers more substantial options, from British classics to international favorites.

Service was impeccable yet relaxed – just as you’d expect on a royal ship. There was no rush, no background noise – just the gentle clinking of teacups and the calm ambiance of the sea. Bliss.
